| I recall seeing diagrams of some vans that came in winter specification where they came standard with two batteries to enable them to cope with the really cold winters they get in some parts of japan.... the extra battery sits beside the standard one.... is there not enough room to fit another battery in there..... cant remember how big it was last time I looked....though my leisure battery is fitted inside a cupboard in the van.... so maybe not... | |

| Last time I considered this....there ' seems' to be space under the main battery provided you have the ability to modify things a little........also a small liesure battery would fit under the middle 2 seats at a pinch. Haven't done either though....... | |

That explains why the 2 fit....must be smaller......think mine is 900cca. Would'nt get 2 of those in side by side. | |

| I have been told that you can bugger your cars computer by installing the wrong battery ..so I would advise to seek professional advise re the sizes needed .. just a thought because that is what happened to mine and now costing to repair computer .. cheers Tezza | |

| Suprised at that...volts are the same...amps stored in the battery are more....computer should just take what it needs....not disagreeing..just suprised.. | |

| I was advised by a mechanic / battery specialist , don't know if it is true or not but my computer had to be repaired and I was told that the probable cause was from having a smaller battery installed by the previous owner .. the battery was smaller and was held in place by a plastic drink bottle to take up the room and allow the battery hold downs to keep it in place .. cheers Tezza | |

| The battery charging is controlled by the Alternator, the ECU just gets signals that this is happening. | |

| Hi, Probably... Depends what they are for: Some HiAces came with twin starting batteries (under the passenger seat), apparantly to help cold-weather starting. If it's one of these then it'll probably start from one battery, if the other one's disconnected of course, when it isn't cold outside.
Others came with a second "leisure" battery to run the internal electrics (lights, fridge, pumps etc) when parked-up.This avoids damage to the starter battery (they don't like being run flat) and also means you can still start the engine when you've used all the power in the leisure one! Obviously, if the starter battery is good and the leisure battery bad you can start the car but not the other way round.
I currently have twin starting batteries and a single leisure one (under a single seat to the RHS of the sliding door as you look in from outside. The leisure one doesn't hold enough charge for what I want so I need to work out if that's because it is "worn out" or just inadequate. I think there's space there for a second leisure battery to be paralleled up but until I check the current drain from the fridge to find out if it's realistic to run it all weekend from 12V I don't know whether there's any point!
Cheers, W.

| Hi, Twin starter batteries- they are clearly coupled by the heavy duty connector cables to operate in parallel, so the batteries act like one bigger one.
