Battery Drain --- flat battery Empty
PostSubject: Battery Drain --- flat battery   Battery Drain --- flat battery Icon_minitimeSun Sep 28, 2008 6:32 pm

Hi all,
Recently bought one of these great vehicles. Mine is a super custom 3.0EFI Turbo camper or day van. It is a semi-high top, beautifully done out inside with 2 ring cooker ,fridge, sink etc. I will try to post some pictures later.
However, I have a problem with a drain on the battery. It lasts approx 3 days of non use and it is flat and will not start the vehicle.
There is a drain of around 0.3amp. with eveything off.
There are one or two things that don't make sense to me.
They are 1) The courtesy light in the drivers door does not work.
2) The bulb in this light is OK .
3) All "door close" switches are working .
Could these have any effect on the battery drain.
Any help & advice greatly appreciated
Thank John

Hi John, Get the same thing - went for a week's hol recently and my battery was down to 3.5v! I've been round the van turning things off, but nothing seems to work. A friend thinks it's the immobiliser, but whatever it is I keep a spare battery charged up ready. I had intended to use the Hiace for 'posh' - ie weekends - and my Townace for 'work', but it's a pain in the butt changing the battery every Saturday morning. I'm hoping to get an electrical wizz to have a look at a couple of other issues, so if he can sort it out I'll let everyone know....... scratch

I have a similar van to you but mine came from Japan with a solar charger on the dash cnnected to the main battery - not had any problems with mine so maybe its just keeping on top of it. Mine has a separate leisure battery too.

Got any pics of the interior of yours?

I got mine from Poplar motors at Chesterfield - they specialise in Jap imports so if you get stuck maybe they could help you out - they have mechanic and electrical guy.

Thanks for replies. Tried David at Poplar Motors, he's a helpful guy. I was going to buy one from him but had to go away for a couple of weeks. When I came back, the one I liked was showing as sold on his website so I looked elsewhere. He has suggested one or two ideas for the battery drain, which I've checked with no luck. He did say that they have a good electric guy and that he would give me his number if I really got stuck.
At the moment, until I can get time to investigate further myself, I disconnect the battery if leaving for 2 or more days. It's only a two minute job and saves all the hassle of charging etc.

Try turning everything off and then (with a multi meter) test the voltage across each fuse.
This should indicate which circuit is drawing the power.

Jas is correct but measure the amps across each fuse to see which circuit is draining the battery. If it's completely draining a battery in a few days it should be a couple amps so it should be easy to detect.

Good luck and keep us posted.
