Hi, Just joined this site as I have purchased a 1994 Toyota Hiace Camper Van. Not used it yet!! We had a Motor Home previously, an Autosleeper, but sadly, my Husband died very suddenly and I was left with it. However, I have just taken a risk and downsized to a Camper Van!!
Am now trying to organise everything to fit into new van, it won't work so will have to reduce the amount of equipment I carry around!!!!! It's a new life on my own with the Camper so will probably be asking for help with various problems on this site!

Hi Anne,
Welcome to Hiace Ownership. You've made a great choice. So sorry to hear about your husband, but good on you for sticking with camping.
You should find, due to the downsize, that it will highlight all things you used to take away in your Autosleeper that you don't really need.
Any questions we're all here to help.

Welcome!
Sorry to hear of your loss. Adapting to the Hiace should keep you busy, I used to travel around on a bike so whenever I think space in the van is small I remember how much bigger it is than a topbox
Also a Hiace is more economical and easier to park .

Welcome, Anne and congrats on choosing a hiace. As a newbie myself I have to say I have found this forum incredibly useful.
It's true that space is surprisingly limited and it would be interesting to know what you chuck out and what you leave in.

Thanks everyone for welcome and support!!! Can anyone tell me about the 4WD? Does it alter on the front wheel, it seems to be seized up. Is it a mechanic job? Thanks Anne

What do you mean exactly? What exactly does or does not work? Do you have a 4wd button in the dash? And perhaps a hub that you can turn on the front wheels?

Hi Anne
Thanks to other forum members I have worked out that to engage 4WD you first turn the hubs. You can do that in preparation at the start of a journey if you think you are going to need 4WD. So if that seems to be siezed up you need to try and get that sorted. It turns quite easily on mine.
Then you press the 4WD switch on the Dashboard to actually engage 4WD when you need it.
When you are in 4WD you can also use the hi/lo lever in fromt of the main gear selector to select a lower gearing. You can only move the hi/lo lever when the 4x4 button is illuminated and the autobox in N. it moves in 2 positions although a false neutral can occur between hi and lo.
