Power Steer issues 44370-26040 PUMP ASSY TROCHOID W/O GEAR

Hi there,

I have a 1992 4x4 LG107 and have had oil leaking on my left foot from the speedo cable. Looks like a seal has gone in the Trochoid power steering booster pump(?) which sits on the speedo gear at the gear box. I pulled it off and it looks like the mid collar seal is well worn - but it is glued in place. There is also a little spring in there.

Toyota longer make the art and I cannot find it anywhere in NZ.

Has anyone ever replaced this seal? Any ideas on how to go about doing this? Does the trochoid pull apart to access the seal better? Has anyone deleted the booster power steering pump?

I’ve a manual so am not familiar with this part. I do see that it’s discontinued on the sites I regularly use.

If it’s just the o-ring then this is probably swappable. It’s quite likely the o-ring is a standard part and Amazon etc sells bit kits of black, nitrile rubber o-rings across a big size range for not a lot. You can also buy lengths of o-ring material and make your own. The kits usually come with a little jig, a knife and correct glue, but a piece of glass, some spare hands, a razor blade and super-glue have got me out of a pickle in the past where a direct replacement wasn’t available. If it’s not nitrile (usually evident by colour) then I don’t know.

I’ve not bought from MegaZip but reports on here seem to suggest things arrive but can take a while. When I’ve been checking for some more unusual parts that seem to be discontinued elsewhere then MagaZip seems often to still stock them. I don’t know if they just have a big warehouse of new old stock or there’s still a market and perhaps a local manufacturer of accredited parts, but it’s an option.

I had ordered the part of megazip, but then got a message from them saying they did not have stock and it would be on back order for 3 months.

It seems this is a unique part for only the LH107G as it is the hi/lo 4x4 So even finding a second hand one in NZ is proving difficult.

It is definately the internal seal, rather than the 'o' ring as it was leaking down the speedo cable.

Does anyone out there know of a Super Custom specialist wrecker/dismantler?

Thanks Pete_nz. I spoke with Jamie and he had the part of a later model with the digital speedo, so that wont work.

I have placed another order with megazip for the same part but with with the second to last digit being 30 instead of 40 (44370-26030) the schematics look exactly the same and this one is apparently in stock in Japan - lets wait and see.

Final option I think is to take it into Robinson instruments in Auckland (they do speedo calibration gears etc.) and see if they can "service" it.

Who would have thought that such a small part would keep me off the road!
