Engine starts but dies immediately

Hi everybody,

We just had a ecu blow up. We changed the ecu but we put a new one that is not the original for our car. We made 900 km with no problem. This morning we switch on the car and drove for 3 minutes and we parked. When we wanted to go again the motor switch on, make an electric noise, smell burned and dies. We are stuck in South Africa, so desesperate.

Well its probably terminal for the ECU so your options are Toyota main dealer part or a scrap yard bit, you do not say what model or engine size so cannot go further. My ECU expired a year ago but did not burn was able to fitt new capacitors , are you sure its the ECU that has burned out. There are some available from Japan very expensive and you need the correct part number.

Thanks a lot for your reply. It seems that its a wire that is doing a short cut touching the body of the car. It killed our previous ecu but now its seems we found the problem. For info, we found a cheap ecu in Uganda for our supercustom 3l turbo.
