Disabling a door sensor Empty
PostSubject: Disabling a door sensor   Disabling a door sensor Icon_minitimeThu Sep 21, 2017 4:53 am

Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem on my Super Custom regarding the passenger door sensor.
The passenger is very slightly bent at the spot that is normally pressing the door sensor and turning off the "open door" red light on the dashboard.
Therefore, the light never turns off on the dash board (it also lights the spot where you insert the key near the steering wheel) and it slowly drains the battery.

Here is the sensor:

One of the previous owner managed to disable the sensor on the driver side, it looked like the plastic part that moves in the sensor has been pulled off.

I hesitate pulling it off as the electrical circuit might stay open and light would never turn off...

Anyone experienced the same issue and found a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help!

They are a very simple switch, an open door means the spring pulls the wire down to earth.

To disable it just pull the connector off and insulate it.

A better idea would be to buy a new one, or add a bit to the end of the plastic - like a small self tapping screw. The good news is that all cars basically use the same switch so one will fit!

e.g:

Probably a Toyota switch will do it.

I had that problem solved it by putting a small washer behind it.

Thank you for your replies.

Actually I don't need to replace it as the sensor is working well, it is the door that is bent and doesn't push properly the plastic tip!
I put a folded tissue in the meantime but it doesn't look good...

My question is just: if I pull off the plastic tip, will the light stay on or off?

Otherwise I'll try to stuck it..

Here's another way to make the plunger longer:

I use a similar trick with my E30 boot switch to stop flat batteries!!

Nice one! Thanks for the idea, I'll try to find something similar.

I use "rubber bumpers" on the door. Adhesive backed rubber.
The switch is available and I'll eventually replace it.
