When removing the head on a 2.4 SC 1991 model year, is it easier to take the head off complete with exhaust manifold and turbo or is removal of manifold straightforward? Thanks for any info.

Get a copy of the manual.......
The Hiace Workshop Manual is below:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ddq1fbbv38746mw

And here is the turbo 2LT / 2LTII / 3L engine manual on its own:

All the information you require is in those manuals.

I suspect by now you have found that the head is heavy and any thing that you can unbolt and remove from it helps.

I recommend genuine Toyota head gasket and new bolts. The bolts are the stretch type and can easily bottom out and appear to be the correct torque but not clamp the head that extra thou, beware!

Thanks Clive. I am using Payen bolts and gasket. I've used their products for many years on a variety of vehicles. There are a lot of cheapies on e bay but I don't intend to do this again! Wink
