| Hi, I'm hoping some of you guys can advise me. We're going on a trip to Australia in August-September and we haven't been before. Doing a week or so around Sydney, then flying up to Townsville and taking about 3 weeks driving back down the coast to depart from Sydney again (for Wellington, NZ)
We are thinking about renting a campervan for part of the trip, probably the Brisbane to Sydney sector. Our question is about "wild" camping in car parks, laybys and so on. Is it generally acceptable to do this or must we go to proper campsites? Any other advice on Campervan appreciated! There's just two of us, so thinking about a Hiace sized vehicle or maybe something a little bigger with a shower and toilet. Thanks Al

| Depends whether you plan to travel down the coast or inland. In the main the law doesn't like roadside camping but there are a lot of side roads Have a safe trip mate | |

| Some councils dont like ''camping in carparks'' that is mostly in around the towns though and its usually sign posted, you shouldnt have any problem finding good spots out of town to bunk down for the night - we do it all the time. When in Sydney make sure you check out the northern beaches area from Manly to Palm beach, its one of the best part of Sydney. | |

| Yes I hear people talking about Manly being the best, despite fame of Bondi.
"Wild camping" as we call it, sounds a bit like here. If there's no signs then it's usually okay.
I Watched the movie Wolfcreek. Seen it? It kind of makes me think twice about out-of-town camping in Aus. I will definitely not be letting the wife watch it or she will not even step off the plane!

| The only wild camping you will find is at Mardi Gras in Sydney. Plan your trip then. | |
