| Not sure what this is but I had a japanese lady look at my van - its covered in Japanese notices - all of which were things like
Don't drive along while someone is in bed Don't use child seat in passenger seat because of airbags Turn gas off before driving Hot water is hot
etc etc ie all common sense really
I think the Japanese are quite safety conscious!

| Well, looks like it probaably a load of c*** then I suppose. You never know, some nice japanese person may see it and help with this and the 300 sheets of paperwork that came with it. | |

| I think I have an answer of sorts. Mrs Admin makes greetings cards and she mentioned and post the picture on her forum.
A Japanese lady saw the sign and also sent it to her mother. She has recognized some of the words which goes like this.
The first 4 characters on the left (Ko-tsu anzen) means road safety.
The rest (from her mothers translation) means Iwaya shrine. (Iwaya Jinja)
I dont quite know how this fits together but its the best I can come up with.. I might try posting it on the Japanese Hiace site..... Bear with me.

| This from a Japanese friend of mine:
"It says "Traffic Safety Iwaya Shrine", meaning the car was purified/exorcised by the god of traffic safety of Iwaya Shine. It's a very common practice of Shinto in Japan and nothing crazy although the placard is a bit excessive to me. Looks like the owner was a serious believer... or car lover?"

| Thanks for all your efforts, both humourous and serious. I think I am getting the gist of it. Looks like the owner was a bit supersticious and liked the comfort of the placard I suppose we all have a bit of it-for instance I have the Turkish Eye in mine for safe keeping (so they say). Well I am still here so who knows. Thanks again everyone. I will try and join the japanese one also, just for fun | |
