1989 Toyota HiAce Super Custom

I am BRAND new to the Hiace world. I found a beauty that my wife and I want to check out. We mainly want to use it for little weekend road trips and camping.

I just need some advice - what to look for (mechanically) and just overall advice.

I would love to build a rooftop camper. I just heard these vans are slow as molasses, so I am not sure if it makes for a good road trip vehicle.

Super vague but just need some advice on what these vans are all about!
