| Subject: Steering wheel / column spline size / type? Sun Sep 17, 2023 8:43 pm | |
| Hello. I’ve removed my steering wheel using a modified 2-way puller that is part of my slide-hammer set. I modified it by adding a plate to the puller. The plate is 50mm x 100mm x 5mm and that was threaded with 2 M8x1.25 holes at 40mm apart and so the puller’s centre piece fitted on the spindle. It took a little bit of time to make the plate but the steering wheel was quite tight and I didn’t want to damage it or the trim using other tools. In the end it came off quite easily, but it didn't give to initial taps. Anyway, does anyone know the correct spline measurements / type for the steering wheel? It’s something like 16mm diameter shaft and with ~32 splines but I’m sure there is proper terminology for these and I’ve no idea. If anyone has replaced their steering wheel with an aftermarket type then it’s likely they may know. I’d expect it’s a quite common type but I’ve not been able to find it. Here’s another post, but no answer: https://hiace-super-custom.forumotion.com/t3057-compatible-steering-wheel-boss-for-2003-hiace?highlight=steeringMany thanks! | |
