| Hi,
My recently acquired Hiace hitop reimo conversion rear heater doesn't work. The rear heater controls on the side inside trim have a lo / hi switch which appears to do nothing, a slider for the valve underneath which works, and I assume an on off switch which lights up when you press it or the switch on the dash. Should there be a fan to blow the heat into the rear via the 3 vents close to the floor. I have checked the hoses underneath which get hot where they vanish into the floor. Assuming there is a fan is it behind this panel and is there anything else like a heater matrix behind the panel. Assuming there is a fan that is not working would any heat come out of the vents.

| Yes there is a fan! Check the fuses first.
I have a spare fan, if you need one (I converted mine to diesel heating for camping).
But it sounds like a fuse.

| Hi,
I don't suppose you know what fuse it is. I have taken the cover off the long vertical fuse box to the left of the steering column but there doesn't appear to be anything marked rear fan. I have also looked in the fuse box in front of the auto gear lever. Is the fan behind the bit that sticks out on the side panel?

| I didn't have that bit sticking out on mine, it was all flush. Fuse: just test each one, you'll get to them all eventually.
You can also buy fuses that light up when blown..

| I've got power to the press button on off switch which lights up, but no power coming to the low / hi switch. All the fuses are ok. To get the side panel off I would have to remove the seat on that side which houses all the electrics and leisure battery etc. The van has a Webasto Air top 18 heater in the back so the easiest solution is to use that when mother in law sits in the back. I would like to have solved it but it is too much hassle to get the side panel off. If I could have found a wiring diagram then maybe I could have understood how the fan and controls work. | |

| I must admit that even with the fan, switches and wires on the floor, the wiring was a mystery. The hi-lo switch itself may be faulty, can you pop it out and test it? | |

| I've checked the Hi Lo switch and it looks fine, but there is no power coming to it via the three large wires which I assume is the problem. Without being able to see the components makes it impossible to understand how it all works. For all I know someone may have removed all the bits and instead rely on the Webasto heater. | |

| There will be pipes going in from under the van, if the radiator is still there. | |

| That's where I use one of my good purchases from when I was working: a cable tracer. Connected to a wire that should have power but doesn't it will quickly find the other end for me. Sorry you're a bit far away for me to help though. | |

| Not sure which model you have but for my 1995 model the rear HVAC fan only gets power once the dashboard “Rear Heat” button is pressed. | |

| 1995 Hiace. The radiator I assume is still there as both pipes get hot where they enter the body underneath. Its just the fan that doesn't run. Pressing the rear heat button on the dash (which lights up along with the one on the side panel) doesn't make any difference. I will have another look at the fuses by the steering column as there is no fuse in the position marked RR AC. However someone has fitted a wire into the right hand side of the fuse location which then goes to a remote fuse but I cannot see where the wire goes from there. I found that getting to this fuse box is physically very hard!! | |
