Hi, I am so so so glad I found this forum.  Please help me!  Browsing thru I noticed a lot of manual pages that came up that look like they came from the same manual as myself but the car was way different, an LH or something.
My car is a KZH100-OM0-01 and today the mechanic couldn't find the wheel nut thingy that gets the nuts off - do you think I could find anything for this car here in Victoria?  Nope, everything seemed to be RZH.

Can someone please tell me the difference, what exactly have I bought?  Does it go by another name, is it an alias????   I saw it and grabbed it because I simply want something to get away in sometimes on weekends, it is fairly clean, turbo diesel 1993 with three sunroofs and sliding door and auto windows (but the sliding door and blinds don't work yet on electrics for some reason).  It is currently getting roadworthied - mechanic said it drove like a dream - but that wheel thing got me wondering what exactly I have bought.

Any help appreciated.   I'm a single (old) mum on a pension, I am scared I've gone out on a real limb now rather than just being able to sit and enjoy real tree limbs, away from the rat race.

Please calm down.
Most of the vans are indeed LH or RZH. You have the original Super Custom, which came with the 1KZ engine (hence KZH100) and it is a 3.0 turbodiesel automatic. Lots of people have them here.

There are also some topics about sunroofs not working.

I'm not sure what you mean what the wheel nut stuff? It is pretty standard for any car, there should not be any weird sizes. So lots of wrenches should do the job just fine.

Hi, and as noted, don't worry, things may be slow to do but there's a lot of useful stuff here for your super custom.
Dig out the manual anyway and download it, I think I posted a link where I found a copy elsewhere, have a rummage to save me doing it LOL.

You'll have to be more specific about these faults.

What do you expect the sliding side door to do that it doesn't?
What do you expect the blinds (which blinds?) to do that they don't?

Hi guys, thank you so much for replying so promptly. Calming down is not easy, I owe the bank for a car I can't drive now and it really upsets me. I have to remove ALL the tint and fix this stupid back taillight, but mechanically she is perfect apparently.

BUT my car apparently is an import "Super Custom Ltd KHZ100 OM 01" and so I am not sure what is equivalent here in Australia.

For example, I cannot for the life of me find the correct tail light, my tail light doesn't look like any for sale here in Australia for any cars of that era in hiace, whatever they're called RZH106 etc, and one spare parts guy even went on Google for me and compared mine to an RZH and said no, the taillight won't be the same and won't fit. That's one problem. I don't know where to get it and I only have another $50 left to permit it unregistered.

Apparently, re the wheel nut, there is a special size and a fifth nut (aside from myself) and no one could find it in the car, so we couldn't get the tyres off. I think the mechanic is putting on different nuts or something for that.

So my question remains, what is my car similar to for aesthetic parts and where would I find them? I even took a picture of my neighbour's 2.4EFI only three years older than my 1993, and those lights are totally different.

Oh, sorry, the sliding doors and curtains are meant to be automatic, electronic and open via a little switch just behind the centre console. Not a biggie, but they don't. Would help for my little old mum if the door at least did. At the moment I have to climb in from the back to unlock the childlock - because that locks it even when I've unlocked the car from the outside - and there is no little buzzer sound to say it's not opening when it won't, from the inside, and the curtains don't open via the switch either.

The proper model for your van should be on a plate below the passenger seat 'hood'.
If you can unclip the two clips, tilt that + the seat back and attach the strap on the passenger side door pillar you should see the engine. Under the carpet toward the outside should be a plate with the proper model numbers of the van, engine, transmission and diff.

With the 3 sunroofs it sounds like a standard Super Custom TBH.

Curtain motors are probably a bit tired and need some TLC. Most don't have them IME.
Not sure about the sliding door motor - do you mean there's a motor that shuts the side door? I think that's an option - mine you just have to grab and slide.

Mechanically perfect is good. Very good. Get an oil change done, they need quite a regular change (I posted the intervals somewhere - search my posts).

You mention 'sliding doors' - do you have one on the left and the right sides of the van?

Not sure why your lights should be different at the back, can you post a photo? You may need to make more posts first or stay a week to do though I think though. Do they look a different shape to the ones in the eBay link you posted?
In what way are they different? Would standard ones fit? Someone may have fitted custom ones - easily replaced, I doubt Toyota ones would fail like you describe.

Sounds like your wheels have a locking wheel nut and the key is missing. I think on export Japan gets all loose items and throws them away, let your mechanic get them out and replace them with regular ones.

Thank you. Indeed, i've been told the roadworthy will fail me if the light isn't fixed, but we're waiting on retrieving it back from roadworthy to check the exact light, of course stupid me forgot to get a photo beforehand, didn't even think, but so far looking at other sites, it's a KZ100 (1KZ engine) (abovementioned), 3DT Custom Wagon in Canada, a Y-KZH106W elsewhere and now a Super Custom TBH by your reckoning but it also could be like yours, a KD100G only diesel(?). I wish they'd stick to one name! However, having said that, the lights are different, and I'll send photos asap. Thank you. Yes, sliding door (single, sorry) and windows both have mechanisms for auto. Neither working (as yet). YOURS looks like mine! (I think)

Update update update  -   sooooo NOwhere could i find the lights i needed for my car, nowhere in OZ that is, not for a KZH100 but in the UK they wanted 149 pounds for one piece and somewhere else, Germany I think, EURO 199!  I then hit on a Gumtree ad, no model car mentioned but thought the piece looked like what i needed - wait for it - the guy, who only deals in sports cars so didn't know what to do with them, had 20 pairs and sold me the LOT for $60!  40 tail lights for $60!    I don't know how to send the image but if anyone needs a (whatever my car is model) taillight - some are wired some are just covers - but let me know, happy to sell for $20 or so each, given how much work I did to find them and drive to get them, but that's a bargain compared to what you'd be paying elsewhere!  And thank you to GPW and Hiace 4WD, postage only if you need one, really appreciage your help - though I am still keen to know what my car is called over here - otherwise they're going on ebay pretty soon (keeping some for me though).  WHAT HAVE I BOUGHT? It is called like the sticker says, a Toyota Hiace Super Custom.

All the other LH and RZH variants are just standard versions with a lot less luxury and without the big turbo diesel engine.

This means that quite some parts are not interchangeable. Because all the lights are different, the engine is different, gearbox is different. Only the rear axle and some front suspensions parts will be the same. And any windows should fit between all the versions as well.

But since it is in Australia, there should be a lot more of these Super Customs imported, also wreckers. There have been more users on this forum that have a Super Custom in Australia.

I  checked with Toyota and this light fits various models from 89-95, and is the original light.  It also fits RZH1 to LH1 to LH102, etc. I'm pretty stoked.  I have nice little lights now and plenty to spare and there is a huge list of what they fit, or can replace on an English ebay site, the tail light model nos are 11-5037-005-2 and 11-5038-05-2 if that helps anyone looking for any. Thank you all for your help!  Yes, I know about the mechanics, but the mechanic offered to buy my car today, it is that sound!  Really!  He had it up and looking at it, inside and out, asked me how much I'd sell it for!  Needed that damned tail light and tint off and new (commercial) wheels and tyres (540 all up) and I still came out less than budget happily.  But the lights make me smile, could not find for love nor money here, just this ONE place 20 Ks away in Victoria, that's a miracle, someone watching over this entire transaction!  Mechanically, the parts, I have seen around and about, the diesel etc, Pedders sell small things that suit etc, so I'll worry about that when and if I ever have to. But for now, so far so good! GPW has the lights I bought today.....I owe you both I reckon!

Yeah the lights from other Hiaces will fit well, but then they don't match the chrome line and rear tailgate reflector. That won't matter for roadworthyness I guess, but it would look kind of ugly if it didn't match.

The turbodiesel engine is probably delivered in some other Toyota 4x4 trucks in Australia as well, so you have a reasonable chance of finding usual stuff like filters and belts.

Excellent news, yes I thought they should be available, even brand new ones (pattern parts) popup now and again for the back.
Toyota changed the front light style at least 3 times and some of those are unobtainable, but the backs stayed the same.

I think your van is a standard Super Custom the same as mine, they all have diesel engines, mine also has the 1Kz 3.0L TD engine. The same engine is used in other Toyotas like the Hilux.

BTW there are two or perhaps three checks your mechanic should do for you before you embark on your van life IMO:
If it's the same as mine this is the translation of the service plate under the passenger seat:
WHAT HAVE I BOUGHT? Service_Plate_EN

1) Change the engine oil
2) Change the transmission fluid
(Do NOT have it flushed: VERY IMPORTANT, just change out from the pan)
3) Check thermostat and coolant and newish or replace.
4) Check the drive belts at the front of the engine.

Point 2 is important as it depends upon your mechanics knowledge, but bear in mind the following points:

1) Auto fluid that is too old will wreck the gearbox
2) Changing 100% of it will dislodge dirt, block passages and wreck the gearbox
Never, EVER have it flushed. Just say no. check it does not get flushed. Never get it flushed.
3) The oil must be Dexron III or IIIH, do NOT use anything else. Dexron 6 is NOT compatible.
4) You must only drain the pan (40% change) and refill with the same amount.
5) You must check the level with the engine running
6) Highly recommend you get an auto-box specialist to do this, but never ever let them flush it.

Note: Pull the auto dipstick out (right at the back of the engine area under the passenger seat and wipe the tip onto a white tissue. Pink = good, no change required, brown = change ASAP, black = it may already be too late, seek advice from an auto specialist.

Also when driving remember it's a heavy van, when you come to a stop try to do it gently. If you have to race to a halt your brakes will be very hot so you need to stick it in N or P and take your foot off the pedal or the brakes may become 'warped' as they react with the pads. As Melbourne is entirely flat I don't see an issue here but just bear in mind for the budget Smile

Thank you so much!  I'll print this and give to mechanic.  I will only be driving it every other weekend and probably just one round trip of 700 Ks, a tank of fuel, so I am sure it'll be fine, especially in our Aussie weather (Spring) but I'll definitely do the above and I'll watch my lead foot (ha, mechanic nearly died when I drove the Hyundai Elantra in today to get photos of the van for this website)! By the way, the reason I got this van is I saved all my pension and spent 21 days going thru England, the love of my life (England I mean), last April, in a Fiat/Tribute 760, so you being from Cambridge, I'm rather jelly, I love the UK so so so much. Passed Cambridge, hated Oxford and should have gone to Cambridge instead (home of the van we hired anyway but picked it up at Heathrow), but there you have it, in more ways than one if it wasn't for you lot we would be here in OZ or on this site!
