Roof rack on Hiace Cruising Cabin fiberglass pop top

Has anybody mounted a roof rack to their fiberglass Cruising Cabin pop top and lived to tell the tale?

I'm currently considering purchasing a '91 Cruising Cabin but hesitate because the interior storage space isn't sufficient. I'm hoping that, with proper reinforcements, the fiberglass pop top could support a pair of cross bars and a small cargo box to supplement the interior storage.

Any experience with the factory pop tops would be welcomed. Thanks in advance!
