| I have a 1996 Hiace Vantech hightop camper.
The fan for the cabin heater has stopped working and it is cold here in the UK. I have tried the fuses under the steering column (very very difficult to get to) and the all seem to be OK but i do not have a manual so I am not sure which one is for the fan.
Is there something else that might need repair in the system?

| Can you run power directly to the fan to check if it's working? Also might be worth checking it has a good ground connection (maybe that's a given, I dont know how they are mounted!) The switch for the fan heater would be worth a look, as it's a moving part so a likely place for wear to cause problems. Otherwise you are probably looking for general corrosion on contacts or a broken wire? I'm assuming you have a distinct fan switch, like my '94. If it's part of a more sophisticated hvac system then this may be no help at all!

Cheers, W. Hot wired the fan works OK. So what next. Could be the mechanical lever. How do I take out the dash facia to access.

| Taking the dash out from memory. 1st - Unscrew the 2 screws that hold the fuel filler pull switch in place. You then want to post the pull switch through the gap in preparation for the next step. 2nd - Pull forwards and slightly upwards the whole ignition key surround, which includes the right hand under dash speaker part. 3rd - Unscrew the screw that is now revealed just above the ignition key. 4th - Remove the two screws that are just above the speedo. 5th - Remove the screw that is hidden in one of the central air vents in the middle of the dash at the top 6th - There's also a screw underneath the dash, grey part that holds the dash to the middle consol, on the left a little above the left foot rest.
The whole central dash can then be lifted out part way and then the hazard buttons, etc etc will need to be disconnected, and clock if that is fitted there too.
Then carefully pull it all out. The heater switch is one unit that needs to be unscrewed separately afterwards.
Hope that helps? | |

| Amazing detail from memory. I can't believe they have made it so complicated.
Before I go ahead is there something else I should check first.

| I've had the dash off quite a few times, changing the stereo, upgrading the speakers, wiring in a sub unit, and sorting out a dodgy stereo connection. Once you've taken it off once you get really good at it. I found this old thread about dash removal here with a photo https://hiace-super-custom.forumotion.com/t1921-dashboard-removal?highlight=dash+removalDon't forget you can do a search on the forum which can pull up lots of helpful info as people don't always log in here that often to answer questions. | |
