I have a 1993 cruising cabin, 2wd and manual box. we plan to tow a wayfarer dinghy (about 200kg and 5m long) to the south of France next year but I have concerns about the weight and braking. Even with the Toyota standard camper conversion, it can feel heavy and a bit under-breaked. Does anyone have advice here? Can the breaking be up-rated easily? Any advice on tow bars too as i'd like to have a discreet one without the steel piece running along the back edge of the bumper as I've seen on some?

Max towing weight for an unbraked trailer is 750kg. For a braked trailer 1800kg is max assuming you have entitlement on your driving license. Watling do a tow bar.

Yes, I'm old enough to have entitlement on my license! Thanks for this- useful. The combined weight will be approx 350kg I reckon. The 2.8 cruising cabin is approx 2500kg; do you have any opinion as to whether the brakes are up to this or if they can be uprated easily?

I regularly tow a braked trailer of around 1300kg with no problem, brakes are excellent.
