Not juddering as such, but it can stop with an almighty thump if there's a leak in a vacuum line...16 years is certainly an age where rubber tubes are deteriorating.
Idling judder can be related to low tick over speed...

and how do i check if their is a leak in the vacum line, is it a good idea to drop both the engine and gear box together from underneath and change all pipes as its difficcult to work through the bulk head, the turbo is nowere to be seen....and i would rather change all worn rubber pipes....is it a big job takeing the engine and box out together wivout splitting them apart...as its alot easier ...bolt out bolt inn....and mind you the idl is fine on the rev counter..............

Have no pices...but unbolt the panel under driver seat...also rear bulkhead panel comes off (behind seats).
Be wary though...some vacuum tube I bought from motor factor did'nt last very long.
If you have a vacuum guage (ie:mightyvac) it can help to check lines...they usually split where they fit on to the spigot.

Haven't got your problem but when it is cold on the overrun (when you lift your foot off ) it makes a funny vibrating kind of noise, I've been told it's the vanes in the pump that wear and it isn't as efficient. Hope it lasts for a while yet tho as I've heard it's about $3k Aus to get it reconditioned and pulling it off will be another trial Sad

The way it was explained to me the pump has plates with vanes in it yhat press the fuel out similar to the compressor vanes in the turbo.

This might explain it better

Ok, got it now, the Hiace has a Bosch copy pump under licence - it would need to be worn to the point of not working IMO to be that noisy....................

I'd get a second opinion Q
