| Hi Guys as you can see this is my first post and unfortunatley its with a mechanical problem.Ive had my super custom for about 4 months now and done 3500 miles with no problems at all until last weekend. It is a 1997 3.0 td auto. The problem started a week after it had been serviced.I went to accelerate and the engine management light came on the van juddered and slowly cut out.It started straight away and drove for another 200 metres or so and then did exactly the same. This continued for a little bit until i found a convenient place to stop where it wouldnt rev at all just cut straight out.I called out the recovery firm and when they arrived 40 mins later everything was ok again so he followed me down the road for about a mile and it cut out again, after headgasket checks and alternator charging checks which were all o.k he thought the fuel pump housing might be sucking in air after just being serviced so tied a rubber glove around the top and away it went no problems,we did 90 miles to get home.i ordered a new part at £140 from toyota and waited.Used the van all week no problems until friday and it did it again.got the van to the garage and they fitted the new part but it was exaxtly the same.So basicly the van now dies out after about .5 mile restarts easily and then cuts out again a few hundred miles down the road.If you leave the van for a few hours you will be able to do 2 or 3 miles before it cuts out again. The whole family are all missing being able to use it and im just looking for some advise on this please, thanks in advance, cheers steve. | |

| Does sound like fuel starvation. Have you run it to near empty?
If you have a fuel can try connecting a hose direct to the fuel filter and see if that resolves it. If it does then I'd suspect the pick up filter in the tank or an air leak in the delivery hose. If it does not then it is filter/pump and/or electrical problem

| If it was serviced did they replace the fuel filter in the engine bay? An incorrectly sealed fuel filter will draw air and give the symptoms you're talking about..................
Sounds like the garage need to sort out THEIR problem and refund you £140!

If the tanks run very low it can suck some otherwise undisturbed crap up to the filter
Another long shot on very old rubber tubes is them sucking shut when they get too rubbery....97 is not really old enough for that though....
