Offroad capabilities of the 4WD system.

Hi Everybody.
I'm new to the forum and currently contemplating importing a 4wd Super Custom. I love the looks and general appearance of it. It has more ground clearance that suits me fine. I cant find any info on the net about the off-road capabilities of the AWD system. I would like to know if the system is a 4WD with a low range or the ordinary AWD system. I am particularly interested in how it performs on sea sand as I plan to use it for beach driving (not to long distances though).

I would also like to know how easy (or not) does the rear seats remove as I plan to use it as a work vehicle from time to time.

Hi Fred , welcome to the forum ,
The SC is a full time 4WD with no lo range , and capable of going alot of places but not as good as a full on 4WD like landcruiser etc.
They need bigger tyres and a bit more ground clearence. The 3lt diesel has plenty of low down grunt and will handle most situations.
Rear seat comes out easy

It depends what year model you buy.......
My 89 is part time 4wd with locking hubs AND Low range.
Push button 4wd activation and a stick for high-low range.

In low range mine will pull tree stumps out. Heaps of torque. Yay.

On the beach ground clearance is a problem if you are in someone elses tracks.
The inability to fit large tyres doesn't help either.

I'm going to fit 235/75/15 RV's with a square cut edge soon , as this seems to be as wide as you can go and slightly bigger diameter.
I would like to try bigger tyres before buying them and finding out that it does'nt make a difference in sand as I'm only interested in beach driving.
Shame you cant do much adjusting on the front end .
Maybe I could mount a a big blade on the front and turn it into a grader and make my own track..
Wish the later model 1kz-te had lo range
