Fuel Gauge not zeroing Empty
PostSubject: Fuel Gauge not zeroing   Fuel Gauge not zeroing Icon_minitimeThu Feb 18, 2021 8:36 pm

Hi
look for some help with finding a fault on my fuel gauge (1995 Hiace Van 2.8D). When the engine is switched off it doesn't go back to zero. When the tank is topped up the new fuel level is detected fine.

thanks
Dave

Many modern fuel gauges retain the current reading when turned off, I can't remember if the Hiace ones are like that. Can you disconnect the wire from the fuel sender then turn on the key, this should result in the gauge going below the zero mark after a short time if the gauge is OK, if it still stays offset it will be faulty, you could swap out one from another instrument cluster from a wreck, it usually isn't too hard to do.

Yes, the Toyota gauge is supposed to do that, so you can see the amount of fuel left, even when you don't switch the ignition on.
