| Hi - has any one managed to get to the rear speakers on a 1993 super custom limited yet - i presume you have to remove the rear seats (already found out how to do that from this forum) but i am not sure how the side panels that the speakers fit behind come off?.
Also has any one changed the front speakers yet - i've had no problems getting them out but the drivers side one has an unusually shallow space to fit in to and i haven't found a decent speaker that will fit yet - has any one found a decent make that will fit?
Thanks | |

| I am in the process of fitting speakers to my '94 SC.... It seems that to get the rear side panels out, you have to carefully remove the top section of the panel ( the velour bit that has the curtain track on it) by easing it away from the clips that hold it in..once this is removed there are some screws to be undone.... it's then a case of following your nose , but Not forcing anything...to get the bottom panel clear...................... I fitted some 6.5" Sony coaxial speakers in the rear( nice fit ) £39 from Halfords I have used some 4" Fli integrator speakers for the front..(only £22 off Ebay) I'm also running a 12" active sub (also Fli) The sound is certainly better than it was when I got the bus.... Good luck.......hope this helps | |

| Cheers for that - sounds like a weekend of careful dismantling is in order soon then! I'll have to have a look for those front speakers on ebay too. Got my 12" kenwood sub in already - but i cant turn the bass up too loud or the rear speakers start to collapse on me! | |

| What I did not mention, is .... once you take the front speaker grilles etc off and you have removed the speaker itself, you are left with an enclosure ( like a small speaker box) this can be removed by undoing about 3 screws... the enclosure can then be split into two parts (front and rear) Now this is the bit that ( even though it is probably the most important bit ) that I forgot to mention.... I did have to cut away the back section to seat the speakers properly... This could obviously be done for any aftermarket speaker... so the choice is yours....... it does not mess the sound up, as you will want the front speakers to sound less bassy, especially when running a sub... when I removed the rears in mine , the rubber surround was non existent, which would explain the wet fart sounds when pumped up........... There is always an alternative to removing the rear side panels if you are carefull and have a hot glue gun ( I only worked this out once the panels were off) You can force the grille covers off as they are only held on by 4 small plastic pins with clips on the back,(protect the panels with a piece of plywood or something as you pry off the grilles) the clips will not shift so the pins will break off.. once grilles removed , easy access to speakers , then glue grilles back in place ..... just a thought | |

| I looked at the front speakers in my 97 SC today. They have a non standard mounting as the screw holes are not evenly spaced. Look to be 6 inch weather proof drivers. I'm leaving them as is. Rears look the same, just no tweeters. It might work ok to just put in an amp and a pair of box speakers on brackets up at the rear top seatbelt mounts to get better treble and mid to the rear. | |

| I have bought some tweeters to upgrade the fronts. They are easily fixed with stick on (although i might hot glue / loctite in) | |

Luckily ours came with standard front tweeters so I'm not too worried , but the rear is decidedly flat sounding. The extra amp would give me volume when wanted too as the HU is only 35W per channel.

I looked at mine but the mount tags/holes on the original speakers are not evenly spaced and I couldn't mount normal equal distance mounting hole speakers.

| The back speakers in ours don't work at all, and the front ones are very 'tinny'. Just another thing to add to the list. I should write the list at some point and see what you guys can do | |

| I drilled holes in each corner of my speaker covers then put speed clips behind the trim panel where the plastic lugs would normally have gone & used self tapping screws with round plastic covers on them to screw the speaker covers back on. Looks really good & allows you to take them off again with out having to use glue & possibly damaging your trim. | |
