Hi everyone. Can anyone suggest best all round/all terrain tyres? I want something that will do a bit of offroad but a bigger % of driving will be on road. Is all terrain best? How capable are all terrain? Best to just get nobbly off road tyres?

I was wondering about tyres before and thought that if you're going to go down some rough roads you just stuck the ones with the most tread on and off you go but it's not that simple and all about what you want to sacrifice.
Apparently all terrain tyres are good off road but noisy on the road, increase fuel consumption, reduce comfort and they also wear out faster.
It seems that there aren't any good all round all terrain tyres because despite the name they're really built for one purpose so even though I'm planning on taking my van down some rough roads I think I'm going with all season tyres instead.
I've been in some places with very bad roads and when you look at the local transport half the tyres are bald or falling apart so I'll take my chances.

Thanks Nick. Good points you have raised. I might try the tyres that are on it first then, new Toyo Transpath (i believe these are all season road tyres) put on for RWC at dealer. I was worried about getting stuck on a muddy track somewhere, but maybe these tyres will be ok...one way to find out

With the money you'll save you could probably buy a winch and some snow chains
