I have had the front pistons/ caliper slides regreased up, but the front disc brakes are still making the front wheels hot and I guess wasting a lot of fuel.

I would see if they are sticking…or if they are still under pressure from something else sticking.
If you vent the caliper bleeder and the front brakes release something else is holding pressure after you release the pedal like your brake hoses, master cylinder, etc. I would rule that out first before I dug into the calipers.
