Removed the full length horizontal trim on the rear tailgateto fit a rear camera.

There are 9 clips and as expected all are brittle or broken.

Can anybody identify them ? I've had no joy after scouring eBay.

Hi.

Great pictures!

Yes, these are the trim clips that sit above the rear door handle on non-basic models, but I don’t think they are used elsewhere on the Hiace. I’ve got a fairly detailed post on here somewhere about the tailgate lock mechanism / rear lights with quite a few pictures and you can find it by searching for my replies. I wasn't the OP.

The only way I’ve managed to remove them was to lift off the trim (which can break the clips) and then rotate the clips. The come out easy by doing this but tend to shatter if prying is tried. It’s interesting to see that the ones you have photos of have what looks like a piece of foam or something. I don’t think mine had these, but it might have turned to dust.

Is that foam?

I don’t have a part number easily to hand but and you should check your model on the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalogue as it will give you access to all and every OEM part for future reference.

This is the link for my van:
https://toyota.epc-data.com/regius_ace/lh119v/114894/

Just navigate until you can put in your frame number (LH… etc) then you will have the comprehensive info you need to properly search auction, dealer or aftermarket sites. The EPC is amazing and in some respects more useful than a repair manual.

I’ve never found direct searching on sites like eBay etc without the part info to be that useful.

HTH

p.s.  Be good to see how you’ve added your camera and what you chose and do you have a post in the ‘Show us yours’ section. I’m contemplating adding an ATOTO model, but am still in the ‘repair metal’ phase.

Cheers for the link.

Found the relevant part which is 76817 no. 1 or 2.

Not that I can find them for sale anywhere ! Got some similar from eBay for a couple of quid so ordered those to try.

As for the Model I installed a VIOFO A129 Pro Duo last summer and only just now got around to installing the rear camera.

It's been great and would recommend. Really easy install with the hardwire kit. Just to the drivers side of the rear view mirror, chasing the cable behind the trim and down behind the dash.

Hard to judge the video quality due to the editing software I used.

Megazip, Amayama and JP parts have the clips. Barely 2 dollars each. I have used megazip quite a bit and they always come through….just sloooooooow. Figure 3 weeks to a month.

These are international options if you can’t source them locally. The clips appear to be bespoke to the Hiace but I’m wrong often haha.

Good luck!

As above, from the EPC site you can click straight through to Amayama and purchase. Couldn't be simpler. They even have pictures of the clips.

Postage is the issue with the sites across the world. The trick is to group items like these into bigger orders. Another options is to ask your local Toyota dealer. Mine has been really great and when I place occasional orders from them for things I don't want to get elsewhere I usually have a few handy part numbers to run past them for comparison. Sometimnes they are surprisingly not too bad against the inevitable delay for foriegn postage or uncertainty of aftermarket.

I've recently got a 3d printer and there are some trim clips and pop on "Thingiverse" so might try printing some. I might be able to modify something there to suit these, too. But that effort might not be worth the candle.

Thanks for the info on the camera. I do want to fit one, but I find the rear 'look down' mirror ok-ish.

is that foam on your clips?

Cheers.

Apologies..... missed this.

Its a thin rubber gasket. Presumably to stop water that finds its way behind the trim from settling in the tailgate and rusting from inside outwards. Should be easy enough to create a suitable alternative.

76817 #1 has the extra depth to accommodate this.

Just as an additional experience shared of Amayama. Yup, they have an easy site to navigate and add various parts to your cart. I recently made an order, mainly of an assortment of clips, bolts, studs, gasketz and nuts (it was crazy how many were missing from my van! Shocked )

Process of Amayama:
- Find and add parts
- Submit Order
- They confirm
- You Pay
- (in this time, i was notified that 2 items on my list could not be sourced)
- Parts are shipped to warehouse in country
- When all arrived, they are shipped to your address.

My shipping was $8 for the lot. Was about a month to get to me, but i wasn't too fussed as my Super Custom is off the road and im working my way through it, inspecting, cleaning and replacing.

If you make an order, throw a MAP filter in there. These get overlooked and they are cheap to replace. Wink

Hello.

Good to hear your positive experience with Amayama. I've also found them to be very quick to reply to queries and generally their answers are helpful but sometimes I've found they need a nudge.

Interesting what you said about their processing. I asked about something and they said they couldn't confirm a particular detail until they got the part into their warehouse. With what you said I think that means they only source parts for other inventories once they have an order, probably to keep their stock low, which makes them more of an intermediary supplier, but no dramas. A radiator mounting part from my local Toyota dealer was £16 and ~£2 from Amayama. The differential is not always so big and I've recently bought a new driver’s seatbelt and a fuel tank pickup from my local dealer as the prices were very similar.

Amayama have also told me that the P&P works out cheaper for bigger orders and when I add items to a basket the original P&P is quite high but items with otherwise high P&P have much cheaper rates when added to orders, if that makes sense.

For the UK orders I seem to have access to UAE and Japan and occasionally parts in Oz, but not NZ. UAE seems to have cheaper P&P but not all items are stocked there.

Also for the UK the current (post-Brexit) customs regs for trade I think should be that orders <£135 pre VAT should have VAT added at point of sale but for orders >£135 should be VAT free and you pay VAT and often a handling charge (~£12) on import. I've recently found this to be the case for items from Czech Republic and USA. I've no experience yet with Amayama expect this to be the case. The handling charge should not be scaled with value.

The final couple of things to add are that for purely 'catalogue parts', such as shocks, timing belts, aux belts, filters etc that are often used across a wide range of vehicles and manufacturers I've found online sites like Autodoc to be a lot cheaper than these far away 'specialist' dealers. Autodoc is delivery-cost free for orders >£1200 so rather than make a big order I buy when I have an order that comes to more than this but keep things in my basket until the next time.

Where the likes of Amayama and MegaZip seem to come to the fore is in 'Toyota-specific' parts such as trim, moulding clips and fasteners and the like that are much more vehicle specific. One problem with Amayama is that the cheapest price seems to be £1 so tiny things add up quickly if you need a few but it's handy to still get access to the parts. My new anti-roll bar bushes and bits will cost >£20 for a bunch of simple items but I'm sure this would be a lot more if I went to the dealership.

I've also found that MegaZip has some OEM parts that are discontinued by Toyota and unavailable on Amayama so it's definitely worth comparing.

Cheers!
