But all those wires have D connectors on them so they're not part of the vehicle originally. What's the problem?

From eBay there is a place that supplies some really nice sprung 6.3mm space connectors in plugs, 2 way, 6 way etc, I used them quite a bit on my van for adding stuff as it's easy to connect/disconnect as required. For example I added some regulators for the 12V LED lamps, that plug in, or I can plug in a dummy plug to bypass it.
If the electric car stuff was more accessible and less complex it would be nice to fit that in a van, but the inside of (for example) a Tesla looks like an explosion at a parts factory, so parhaps a 1.5L turbo petrol (etc) would be a neat solution: something smaller, lighter and more frugal!
