| Cable tied to the steering column. Partially wired into the main loom, but a number of wires have been snipped. Clearly installed pre-import. I have actually found the address on Streetview from the phone number, but it's now a gym. Any ideas ? | |

| Turbo timer? Can you post a straight-on photo with clear symbols that we can use to feed into Google Translate? | |

It has a turbo timer fitted, but that appears to be working fine, which I wouldn't expect it to given the number of wires snipped. Odd thing is that there is also a 3.5mm jack plug going into it (also snipped). Will try again for a clearer, closer, photo.

| My van has wires all over the place from what was once probably an amazing stereo system. I think a lot of the Japanese owners went for that kind of thing. | |

I tend to think I agree with you here. A cellphone kit. I have google translated the writing on it and it's simply a Japanese address. The same one I had already traced from the phone number. As others have eluded to, there are more "disconnected" or unused wiring systems under the dash than you could possibly imagine. Think they are all legacy looms form previous owners ripping out accessories as they sell the vehicle on.

| If it is a phone kit the 3.5mm socket would be where the hands-free microphone would have plugged in.

| So ... finally got round to de-installing this.
The 3.5mm jack, aerial connection snipped speaker cables all pointed to it being a telephone kit.
Until ....... I tracked the last cable and it led to the turbo timer control panel....... bugger.
So, I'm aware that modern cars no longer require these devices. Is this due to advances in oil or engine technology ? That will help me decide whether I re-install the unit. It's a simple enough job as it has been completed with a professional kit, it just crowds out the driver's footwell a little.
Thoughts ? | |
