| Hi there, The ABS dash light on my beloved 1998 4wd Super Custom has been coming on lately. My mechanic in Sydney doesn’t have the correct diagnostic equipment to determine the issue. The brakes are working fine. I actually put new pads and rotors on less than a year ago. I like to keep on top of any problems arising and fix then straight away. Does anybody know a mechanic is Sydney that would be able to help? Or any other advice? Cheers, Chris | |

| Check your tyre pressures, if you haven't already! Unbalance in pressures can cause the ABS to think something is wrong so well worth checking before spending out on technical help that you may not need. | |

| Thanks for your advice. I have checked all the tyre pressures and unfortunately the ABS light is still on. | |

| Damn! Oh well that points to probably one of the sensors or the toothed ring which generates the pulses. | |

| I looked up Hilux ABS (and Toyota made more of them and the are probably the same

So check the brake light switch and lamps first. If you can unplug the sensors measure their resistance, I'd expect < 100 ohms on each, all fairly close together. Then maybe try the 'tap pedal 8 x fast) to reset.
I'm not sure where the ABS computer may be but it's possible that is had got a faulty part (capacitors of that era were a bit dodgy in engine ECUs), but more likely to be something else IMO. | |
