Hey guys , ive got a 95 awd super custom and on full lock if i go over a bump it makes a crunching/grinding noise which sounds and feels like its coming from the drivers side front wheel under my feet. Ive also noticed a slight tapping noise when i go over bumps also in the front. I pulled both wheels off and checked for anything thats loose but found nothing. Any ideas on what it could be? Im thinking cv’s as the rubber boots are only pinned at one end and the grease has mostly come out. Any help would be great.
Cheers

I suspect the rubber boots are supposed to fully seal...

Can you jack it up, put it on full lock and turn the wheels by hand?

Yeah I tried that with no luck. I think the issue is that it’s happening when I go over a bump so that’s compression not extension. I think I need to full lock it on ramps and drive back and forward until I hear the noise then climb under and see if I can see any contact anywhere. Very annoying task haha

Is it worth slacking off the torsion rod completely and then pushing the suspension around (i.e. up maybe with a plank of wood) to see how smooth it is at the top?

Record the position of the torsion adjuster first of course Smile

Also check the top balljoint moves smoothly.

Plus look for tyre scuffs in the wheelarch area.
