While it's a later model hiace, this shows a very capable conversion to 4wd (hi/low, full solid front axle)
would be cool to do this to my super custom.
bus 4x4

Some Hiaces (super custom) have the same 4x4 with low gearing right? Or was it only the non super customs?
We have the same kind of system on our old Hiace anyway

The 3.0 and 3.0 turbo's run a full time 4wd, with no high/low. The older hiace 2.8 could ran a hi/low with a manual box.
My ideal would be a 3.0 Turbo with auto, with a hi/low transfer box and a diff locker on the rear axle.
Next level up would be a d-4d diesel with auto/high/low and diff locker. this is what they are doing inthe van above, but in the newer chassis.
Your van is cool - I have watched your videos of it on the beach runs.

Ah thanks
Now we made it to Japan all the way overland and by boat, there are some more videos of our travelling on our channel. We should also come to New Zealand hopefully. You live on North or South island?

Nice! Can I rent it?
We have now driven through Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgystan, Mongolia and now bringing the car into Japan. But getting it to New Zealand will be an expensive drama of paperwork/certification and we will only be there for a month maximum.

Yes we are with a family. We can manage with the sleeping probably, but for driving it only has the front seats or also rear seats (with or without seatbelt?)?
Thanks

only two seats up front, none in the back - sofa/bed, but not legal for people to ride in the back while driving here in NZ.
I can ask around to see if there is something free. I have a few mates with vans. depending on time of year.

Thanks a lot. It would be maybe end of December or more likely beginning of January.
The alternative is to rent a small hatchback and bring a tent from friends. This is the end of the trip. Basically no more mpney to rent a Hiave campervan for a couple of weeks We would be coming from our friends kn the North Island then, not sure how yet.
