| Okay just replaced my alternator having had the old one refurbished. All went back as it should and when running alternator light is out so I'm happy
But
There is now a smoking fuse in the fuse box by battery. It is the alternator fuse
I'm getting 12.18 at the battery engine running.
Help please!

| Badly fitting fuse, high resistance causing it to heat up.
As soon as I find out where to buy a replacement fuse I will update!

| 12.18V at the battery when running is too low, the alternator must be pumping a huge amount of current in.
Try resting the battery, if less than 10.5V after a nights rest the battery has a cell gone bad. 12V or above is normal.
If 11 or above it may be ok, try charging the battery on the mains for a few hours, it should be at 14.4V or so.
My guess is a bad battery.

| Hey @GPW you replied to a two year old thread! The post above yours bumped it, but he only needs to find the fuse, those measurements were from the OP. Usually the alternator fuse is situated right by the battery terminal but that may not be the case on yours, @HildetheHiace. | |
