Not yet Smile

It's a common engine, the 1KZ-TE, while hardly anyone has heard of the HiAce this engine is used in lots of things:

I have a workmate setting up a collection so hae can use on his Mondeo.

He has several filters to get rid of any left over doughnuts.. Hang on.. just thinking about cake..

OK back in the room.

And he is going to mix with 10% white spirit to thin it down.

He's also got a licence to collect the waste from local chippies.

He mentioned there is some sort of swap over system so the engine starts on diesel and then when warm swaps to a seperate tank with an oil mix..

Keep us posted if you go for it What a Face

Very Happy

I ran veg oil in my mid 90s Peugeot 406 for a while, just dumped it into the tank, no problem.
Then the prices of veg oil went up - doh! I just used new sunflower oil, safer than eating it.

the only problem with mixing it is that the veg oil smells like a chip shop so there's a great temptation to smell it and breath it in - one must be constantly aware that it's mostly toxic diesel fumes, so may not be very safe around kids or the uninformed.  Not a problem if you go pure veg oil though.

Oh and get it out for MOTs as the emissions equipment didn't seem to like it.

Not sure how to avoid mixing but a double solenoid switch (on both feed and return) to a separate tank is probably the best, but the fuel filter, pump and return lines will still cross contaminate to some extent.

The good news is that diesel fuel line switching solenoids are easy to get.

If you have a webasto diesel heater biodiesel or pure veg oil is likely to clog it up. Best results are in summer.

Well after running on veg blend for 18 months here is an ongoing report, I mostly run on used oil from two local takeaways settle it for at least three weeks pump to second settling tank for three weeks so every time I put 40 ltrs in I can take 40ltrs out next pump through 5 micron filter into 20 ltr containers ad up to 10% petrol mix thoroughly then into fuel tank (I have a supply of miss fuel calculate the amount of petrol easy just weigh it and discount the diesel) the veg oil costs me 20p a ltr miss fuel is free for collection and adds more than I loose in filtered out waste in the veg oil that I mix with saw dust and goes on the wood burner. The pence per ltr is less than 20p plus my time ( I am retired) the only mods to the SC are an extra heated fuel filter and a vac gauge on the fuel line to the lift pump to monitor fuel filter clogging none yet, there is a small reduction in power on veg and therefor a reduction in mpg around 5% but the savings are immense, consensus says watch out for water in the veg oil, I do a hot pan test now and then but never found any yet. Just two down sides so far on very cold days SC takes double the amount of turns to start and may misfire a few times after heater plugs turn off but has not refused to start yet. Another is the Webasto heater will not run on veg oil so have fitted its own tank job done.
Must add the 1KZTE engine is one of the best to run on veg oil as its indirect injection mechanical pump with electronic control accelerates with no black smoke no dpf or cat, its just passed its MOT with emissions very low, 10,000miles so far and no side effects except on my wallet.

Sounds a good way to get the effective MPG right up there, brilliant!
Interesting that you add petrol, doesn't the engine mind?

Petrol was the norm in rely cold countries as a anti gelling agent up to 20% as I recall in the days we had cold winters and before anti gelling additives. It mixes rely well with veg oil and does not settle out makes life easier for the Injection pump and aids combustion and its taxed so legal, if it gets very cold I would go to 15% the veg oil kills the octain level so no pre ignition

Interesting. Petrol also sterilizes the fuel too which prevents the diesel bug.
