Yeah would be the wrong size for 4wd SC's. What is yours 2wd or 4wd? Usually there is a sticker on the inside drivers door with recommended tyre size.

Mine is same as TINMAN'S but i put slightly bigger tyres on than recommended. 225/70/15 is what i got at the moment, and soon be looking to put 235/70/15 which is as big as you can go without modifications i think. Suspect Here is a link for a tyre calculator to work out size and speedo difference. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

hey there..I just got a '92 SC imported to Canada from Japan and I growing fond of it. Just the low clearance gets me down a bit. I've bashed the low end of the motor (skid plate on oil pan?) A few times and think I need to add on a couple of inches. It's got stock TIRES (as we spell it) and I've got a set of 235x75x15 sitting on my old chevy blazer in the yard. I'm thinking of doing a swap. i,m hoping the 75 is ok.

Hay tamarack welcome!
Yeah ground clearance sucks! A few people here have put 75's on ,best if your van is part time 4wd ie (locking front hubs) and low range. I was going to put them on but mine is constant 4wd and no low range so not the best combo. Not much room on the front wheel arch's so you will have to wind the torsion bars up to stop the front TIRES scrubbing on lock, good if you want more ground clearance and is quite easy to do yourself, on the back no problem heaps of room.

Hay was in Vancouver a year and half ago, bloody top place! Summer time Mtb on the Nth Shore - oh the memories! Very Happy

thanks there mate . I do have the locking hubs, so I will try and post.

Vancouver is a good match for Sydney. Although not in ice hockey. I was in NSW 4 years ago and had a hoot!

Laughing but the spare is a bridgestone 215~70r ~15~dot U2 Very Happy which came from Japan Surprised so that should be standard?? Twisted Evil The 195's must be the right diameter the van is spot on 100K'a at a 100K's but they at light truck rubbers good for trucks maybe?? Sad Sad

Is 98 ok for the weight and off road usage Tinman? I just weight my unladen campervan and it tipped the scales just under 2500kg. Tyre load should have a 25% leeway so I need minimum of 100 index before I start to add luggage and people - the current Yokos are 107/105 light truck tyres

As long as your complying with the vehicle spec's then you have no legal worries. Common sense would say use a higher rated tyre if you carry heavier than normal loads. I always have mine loaded with my tools and gear for work, and it also gets packed to the roof for camping trips. It tip's the scales at 2.8 ton most of the time. affraid

Presently running 40's on 18" rims but after lowering it finding the ride a bit harsh (must be old age) so may go back to 16'

Dandywarhol the load should be on the inside of the drivers door and here in Australia if we don't have the load that is on the SC and have a bang we get no insurance! I also have 107/105 L/truck rubber but i find that the ride is not good but the truck rubber would be much better off~road, what i have inside the door is 215~70~15~98S ~so i went looking for some 98 load tyres and "G" the trouble i have had anyhow the tyre people have told me that the Good~year Eagle RV would give me a much better ride ! the L/truck rubber is OK! on the road but very hard ride on the dirt! The 98 is the load the tyre needs to take so on the door it has 98 so you have to be 98 or over!

So yeah Merv , I had trouble finding quality light truck tyres too!! I would agree the L/T tyres are tougher off road but nobody makes them in a quality 4x4 tyre in a 70 series! The closest i could find that would be suitable was 75 series 215 BFGoodridge A/T but 215 are a bit skinny for the beach. So i went for a passenger 4x4 tyre and found it to be much more comfy off roading, but more prone to punctures as i have found out! Shocked

Srburnsy how did you get back home with two flat tyres or are you still out in the bush looking for some HELP?? Yes on the tyres i was also given Kuhmo 798 which are passenger tyres but the reviews on the web were not good one bloke said never buy tyres from China don't tell him almost all tyres now come from China! We went out in the mud today didn't get stuck BUT was not far off and the L/T tyres are just too hard!
Do you have UHF CB in the SC when you need help?? Question
OH! yes i see the antenna!! cheers

The only sticker on my door check reads 195/15 6PRLT front and 8PRLT on the rear - no load rating - so the recommendation is 8 plies rear and 6 (or reinforced) up front.

Never tried the cord, in my trucking day they were all tubed so you pulled them apart and whacked on a patch or new tube as required.

OK on the rubber cord well i had one on a trailer on the tractor was just a 14 car tyre and was almost no tread so i took it into town to get a bit of rubber put on the inside and they used that rubber rope stuff and cost was $30 not bad when the tyre was worth $2 i didn't get to use it for about four weeks and it was still flat so filled it up again and would only stay up for 4 hours i was ripped off again!! Evil or Very Mad

It really depends on what sort of puncture you have, it's only ment for a temporary repair until you can get it professionally patched from the inside. In my case the cord saved my holiday! cheers
