which engine ?

mate of mine has had a 2.4 turbo which blew head gasket and now has a 4wd 3 litre turbo , he's raving about the 3 litre job but is it really that much better ? I always enjoyed riding around in the 2.4 and it never seemed really underpowered.....Is there much difference in the mpg , the 4wd is putting me off a bit as they seem like real gas guzzlers...thanks in advance calum
