Auto gear shift not moving when button activated

Hi, have 3l diesel 1995 Hiace SC. 3 speed auto not moving out of gear with engine running, brake pressed and button on top of shift pressed. To get mobile need to press little red button at bottom of gear shift.
Would be thankful for some advise. Thanks
