Subject: Coolant Type ? Sun May 17, 2020 8:53 pm
Hey everyone! I have been able to find most of the parts I need for my Hiace and oil type, capacity, etc without a manual, but I cannot for the life of me find the type of coolant I should use?? Or how much it matters..(I am in the US) I have a 1993 Hiace Super Custom Limited (1KZTE). Any help would be awesome, thanks!

I'm in the US and use the Zerex Asian Vehicle 50/50 (red container).

On a lot of the 1kz-te forums it seems that the red type coolant is the one to use.

Red was correct for our 1990 Hiace 3L engine also, when I asked about our 1996 Dyna the Toyota guy said that the red would be best for that too because it will last longer than the green. When I said it currently has green he said to just keep using that and if we like we can replace with red if we ever need to drain the system so it seems it may just come down to the lifetime of the coolant. Our Toyota dealership (very helpful and pleasant people) sell the red coolant already mixed 50 / 50 ready to go in convenient plastic jerry cans and it's not too dear, however they also said the stuff from Repco or Supercheap (lol) Auto is OK too.

I picked up some Toyota/ Lexus/ scion coolant from the parts store but it’s really pink. The stuff I had in the van was more orange/ reddish…. Its a 3L diesel and I’m assuming whoever put it in last time knew what they were doing..
Is pink suitable to use, or is this for more modern Toyotas?

Toyota pink is OAT and the red you need is IAT.
Easy mistake, the dealership can exchange it easily. The red helped older copper radiators with corrosion amongst other things so it’s good to use the right stuff.

I used Toyota long life. Don't rely on colours, there is no standardisation!!

I picked up some red stuff, apparently the red is correct for older vehicle with copper rad and pink is for newer aluminum rad
