UK source for an LH129 exhaust Empty
PostSubject: UK source for an LH129 exhaust   UK source for an LH129 exhaust Icon_minitimeFri Mar 13, 2020 11:06 pm

Is it possible to get an exhaust for an imported hiace? I have an lh129 which could do with a new rear exhaust section. Megazip have them for around $450 and I've seen them in the UAE for about $250, but expect shipping to be costly.

Anyone know of a uk source?

If not, I guess I can get one made locally out of stainless for less anyway.

Forget the original go for the stainless steel option much quicker cheaper and will last longer a good supplier will give you options for performance (supposedly) or quieter.

I always use powerflow exhaust, custom built to your choice in stainless steel. It’s a franchise company so place all over the uk. Been using them for over 20 years, I’m in Lancashire and my local company is DCSM who built mine complete exhaust from manifold for £350. Hope that helps

...And another vote for stainless. Longlife in the case of Yoda's system, fitted by the van's former owner when she brought it into the UK in 2003 and still every bit as rust free as it should be, given that it's genuinely all made from austenitic steel and comes with a transferable lifetime (of the vehicle) warranty.
Powerflow is a name that I can also recommend as when their Scandinavian founder first started building systems in the UK, he was a sole trader who would make anything rather than turn down business and, like Longlife, the company's success speaks for the quality of the product. Being completely objective about this and, much as I've been delighted with the LongLife systems that I subsequently had built for my Corolla Liftback and my bB, I have to admit that Powerflow's exhaust systems are less "boomy" than the Longlife, but that said, with an "oldskool" (sic) Diesel engine running on RSO most of the time, there's really not much soot to dampen the sound, especially as none of my Toyotas has ever used engine oil between services, so I reckon that the choice for me would come down to which of these two trustworthy brands has the franchise closer to your home.

I also have experience of dealing with a smaller local stainless exhaust specialist, based in Shiremoor, near Newcastle upon Tyne. They were chosen to do some repairs on my then 22 year old Mitsubishi Pajero Mini's exhaust, all of which was completely original (factory option stainless from new) at that time as the car had then only covered around 37000 miles. Many smaller traders could have been tempted to recommend a complete new system, but "The Exhaust Doctor", in the Algernon trading estate at Shiremoor, actively recommended that the far more appropriate way forward was to repair only those very few areas needing attention (flexible section and one end plate) and so saved me a vast amount as well as preserving a perfectly viable existing resource so eco friendly with it.
The Exhaust Doctor specialises in bespoke systems, built to fit as with the two larger organisations named above, and for anyone within travelling distance of Shiremoor, they are very well worth a visit and again, can be trusted not to carry out unnecessary work or to charge any more than they'd quoted, even when they take longer and do a wee bit more work than they'd anticipated.

Yoda's miraculously rust free structural condition, with only a very few tiny repairs to the upper body having been carried out and then more because I'm a perfectionist than out of any urgent need, makes the van's long term future a thing that can be considered, so why not, given that we all love our old Japanese classic vans, go with a top quality stainless sytem. Go on, you know it makes sense both financially and from a preservation point of view.
Cool
