| Not 100% sure, but I beilive contact will be made with most diesel engines.
I drove my last Toyota car 600,000 km w/o changing the timing belt and it never snapped. I was a gasser w/ an overhead cam though. I wouldn;t risk it w/ a diesel engine.

| hope it's not a snapped cam belt it was changed at 100 k and I have only done 157 k so if it's gone I had no chance of doing 100k before changing it | |

| The other thing to bear in mind Trevor that was kit a cambelt kit, or just a belt replacement on it's own? It is so often overlooked that the pulley/tensioner is overlooked and not replaced at the same time as the belt. Had to order the tensioner and spring seperatley when I had mine done. It is a suck it and see situation with this engine unfortunatley. What speed were you doing when it gave out? | |

| Having changed the cylinder head on my 2.8ltr 3L enigine, I CAN CONFIRM THE VALVES WILL CONTACT THE PISTON CROWNS!!! BEWARE!!
If you fit the timing belt incorrectly you will find the crankshaft will not turn 360 degrees, .

| I would still probably suck it and see, for the simple reason of a Turbo motor having a larger dished piston (but this does depend on engine speed when break). Reason I say this is when a similar event happened to my bro's 2.1TD Townace, there was no damage involved due to the lower compression pistons having a large dish design which is typical of Turbo'ed motors. Would have agreed on a naturally asperated motor for collision, but would take a chance on a turbo. | |

| Bad news. I think all the diesels used in Hiaces are interference design, but most petrols are okay. check this link (scroll down for diesels) Al | |
