Hi all,

I just got a 94 3litre diesel super custom and I'm stoked with it.

As it is a japanese import I'd like to plug an FM converter at the back of the stereo or maybe just fit a new one.

I didn't have much luck googling it, does anyone know to take the stereo out?

Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick..

I replaced the fitted stereo and aerial..

To get to the stereo you need to (at least) loosen the instrument fascia. (dont forget screws inside the air vents), remove the cover under the steering wheel.

The stereo is secured into a metal bracket which is held in with 4 screws.

Hope to see you here regularly (cause its good to talk) bom

That will do the job, as admin says watch out for the centre vent screws!!! There is also a hidden screw above the ignition lock.

I Just put a new head unit in mine and I used a convertor lead that I got from Ebay .. it was only a few quid.
I was lucky that I did not have to take the old stereo out( sounds like a pain in the *%&)

Most new head units have now got standard type plugs fitted , called ISO plugs.
The Toyota plugs , as you say, are different.
So the convertor lead has Toyota fitment one end and ISO the other.
It is ( or was in my case) just plug and play.

I used a Sony Head unit with 10 cd changer. It took all of about 5 mins to do.
