Hello everyone. My Toyota HiAce diesel does not has power go to the mountain. Especially if the climb is very steep. I have to use first gear. Maybe someone had a similar experience? What could be the reason?

I’ve got the same issue. What solved it for me was putting a sticker on the back that says “Go around me, I’m flooring it”

My van was a gutless wonder up hill but it's now running a lot better in general and also does hills a whole lot better. I used to loose all speed and would be on a low gear for hills. I had my fuel pump tuned, which it turns out was completely out (same or near as damnit to Hilux 2.8 3L engine its 0.86 to 0.94mm @TDC). In addition the auto box was adjusted so my van changes gear at the right revs. These vans have the power in the mid range of revs. It feels like a new van after 10 years of ownership, and is even quicker from a standing stop. Hope that helps.

Toldsimply:
That is very interesting. What was the process for having the fuel pump tuned? I am not familiar with fuel pumps that need to be tuned, nor have I ever heard of one being tuned until now.

Interesting as to how your IP was tuned , have had my pump of and tested at our local specialist shop (very old school guys) all filters cleaned, boost pressure tested TPS replaced inlet manifold cleaned catch can fitted new none standard filter head (original one hand pump air ingress) but the best power increase in HP was the the result of a new MAP (manifold air pressure sensor) and filter. Can we assume by tuning you mean timing, there are timing marks on the IP mounting I assume this can be rotated to achieve optimum, after some 130,000 miles there is bound to be some ware in the timing.

Definitely check your MAP sensor for cracks... makes an unbelievable difference
