Where to get a 96' fuel pump rebuilt? Empty

Howdy, recently purchased a 96' Super Custom from Vans from Japan in Sacramento. It arrived dead...not thrilled or impressed. Turns out it needs a fuel pump and radiator.
Anyway does anyone know where to get a fuel pump rebuilt in the US by chance?

1000 thank yous!

Hello.

Try: https://www.northwesttoysllc.com/Default.asp (no affiliation). I've been in touch with them over various turbo bits and while nothing bought from them yet I've no reason to doubt their abilities. They seem a well-sorted outfit and clearly have experience of these motors. If they cannot help I'd be surprised if they can't suggest someone. If they do, please post here? That's part of the utility of the forum.

I had a shot radiator and looked at all sorts of options such as OEM, lots of aftermarket options, and custom-built in either aluminium or other materials. The prices of all these ranged from ~£150 to ~£1k. I spoke to a lot of companies and did a lot of research.

As cooling on these vans is crucial, in the end I was persuaded to get the originally-fitted, ~30y-old, OEM 2-core radiator re-cored with a three-core matrix. This was roughly the same cost as the realistic price of a plastic and aluminium aftermarket radiator, but retained the guarantee of OEM fitting and now has a lot more cooling capacity (though overall performance is affected by thermostat, fan, pump, shroud etc etc) and it should last, I hope.

After (hopefully you can see the core is now full-thickness). The company that did this is in the UK and they are radiator and heat exchanger specialists.

I've been going through the other parts of the cooling system, too. There was a lot of sludge in the expansion tank, both heather matrices and the various piping. I can't easily get inside the block but am doing the best I can elsewhere.

Hope this help.

That's a huge improvement!
Our orange van's radiator rusted through at the exact same place as in your top picture on the right hand side, we went for a clean second-hand one. We don't now have that van anyway.
You should be able to flush through the block and get most of the crud out if the pipes are disconnected and you can get a good strong flow of water going through it from a hose, provided no-one has put any 'stop leak' kind of products through it before you as that stuff is almost impossible to get rid of.

Axel, similar to my situation. I bought a 96 with the 1KZ-TE last November, the fuel pump quit on me ten days into ownership.

I installed a rebuilt pump and, while figuring out what pump I needed, I found OEM and other rebuild kits available. If it’s a problem with seals and rings, the kit will help. If the problem is electronically controlled I’m told there is no hope.

I haven’t been able to learn if a pump rig is necessary in some way to make this rebuild happen, or if it is just necessary to test the pump after it’s been rebuilt. When the price of the kit is compared to the price of the remanned unit, it’s worth the gamble (in hindsight) to give the kit a shot. I am going to order a rebuild kit for my core in hopes that I’ll have a back up IP should this all happen again.

My fuel pump part number is: 22100-67070

eBay search terms for a rebuild kit I found that seems very complete: 1KZ-TE Diesel Injection Fuel Pump Repair Kit (9) + free fitting instructions

I don’t think this is an OEM kit, but you can find one if you look.

Also, there is a kick ass YouTube video (rebuild 1kz te diesel pump, Toyota 1kz fuel pump) by madina DIESEL LAb that has a guy removing the pump from a 1kz, rebuilding the pump and reinstalling it, to great success in his case. If, of course, we are to believe everything we see on the internet that is! He gives no torque specs for any part of the repair. The manual has them for all aspects of IP r and r. Also, there is a special three sided socket is necessary to remove the big bolt amidst the ports.

Don’t know how far into the removal of the pump you are, but a blend of shop manual and that guys YouTube video made this job straightforward and not terribly time consuming. That said, I am not a mechanic and it took me about 6 hours, the last 3 accompanied by a steady flow of beer.

GOOD LUCK! Hopefully this helps in some way and as I am late to this thread, hopefully this wasn’t a big fat pile of wasted keystrokes!
