Hi guys

Could anyone kindly advise me on what fluids to use in my 1995 2.8d auto 3L hiace. I've looked everywhere but to no avail!

Specifically engine oil, coolant type and auto transmission fluid.

Any advice would be much appreciated Smile

Engine oil any rated for Diesel, cheapest is best as it is not in there long enough to degrde,

Tranny ATF Dexron 2 or 3 - may have it on the dip stick.

Coolant - You may have Toyota Red in it only top up with Toyota Red. Or maybe just normal stuff in which case mix 50/50.

Any history to refer to?

Lovely, thanks for the info Clive. No history other than old m.o.t.s and service bills, but no specifics as to what was used unfortunately. Cheers again Smile

ATF no matter they intermix.

Coolant check on services if it cost an arm and a leg it was Toyota Red, a few£s normal blue/pink/green stuff.

According to my service manuals, for the UK you need a 5-30 SAE oil for the engine (but you could get away with a 10-40 synthetic), the transmission uses DX3 oil (ditto for the Power steering) and the coolant should be a decent glycol based coolant mixed to the correct ratio's as listed on the bottle. (Think at least 5 litres of coolant concentrate and top up with clean water.)

DO NOT SKIMP ON THE OIL QUALITY IF YOU VALUE YOUR ENGINE!.
Hiaces work their diesels hard, they run very hot and put alot of strain on their oils and coolants, everything is working at or near its limit.
If you want it to live long and prosper, use the best oil you can afford and seriously consider an oil cooler, even in the UK. Long, hi-speed motorway runs do the engine and its oil no favours.
