Rear Hatch Wont Lock Any Ideas? Is the Latch Electrical?

For some reason the rear hatch on my 1990 Hiace wont lock? Cleaned and Lubricated all the mechanicals and they move fine. Is the Latch Mechanism Electrical? I see two wires going into the actual lock fitted at the bottom of the hatch. The whole latch is free moving. I removed the part on the chassis that the Latch clips into and pushed it in and it wont physically lock. The Opening Handle Works when twisted, the lock works when pushed down, it just wont hold so the hatch opens when driving! HELP!

The wires are for the lock open light on the dash.

You may (should?) have a door solenoid that electrically locks and unlocks the door.
