| Been having problems with what i thought was a loose AC belt, was squeeling like a stuffed pig when i turned on my AC ( which is a lot at the mo), i tightened it up, which didn't help but as a result the belt finally deteriorated, when i took it off a lot of rubber was missing.... so one new belt purchsed and fitted ( easy job)....
However when i fitted and tightened it up and checked the system there was still this random squeeling, but because this time i had the hood cover up i discovered it wasn't the belt, infact it was the idler pulley ( adjuster), the bolt holding the idler wheel to the mechanism was working loose and it was this vibrating that was causing the squeel...
I've tightened up and all is good, however it isn't a lock nut, so probably needs to be kept an eye on, if it was to come loose... A) you'd never find it and B) that belt flying off could make a real mess of the fan and water pump...
Prob worth checking out everyone, its easy to spot, pretty much top of the engine with the cover open !

| On the Townace it sticks out the bottom and is often seized solid.
So thanks not something I'd of thought of checking, even when ajusting the tension. | |

| I was having a similar problem with my Van, once the belt was tightened it was ok for a minute then i noticed the A/C Compressor was locking up and siezing causing the belt to squeal and smoke. Have to try and get a AC Comp now. will try www.importmonster.com.au. | |
