Hi,
about to get my new investment protected from the onslaught of the forthcoming Scottish winter and annual road salt festival.

Does anyone have any opinions on what works best in wet and salty conditions. Being a Japanese import the underside is relatively rust free and painfully barenaked metal.

Local coachworks is talking about using stoneguard and suggests that waxoyl will not stay on for long.

For a proper job I'm thinking to get the doors chassis box sections etc done with a protector too.

It's not cheap and not very glamorous or exciting but in the long run essential here. Never had this done before so any knowledge or experience would be helpful.

Many thanks.

I've used waxoyl clear....either spray or brush....brush is less messy.
Clean any surface rust off 1st with a wire brush...by hand or power tool.
Use protective glasses or the dust gets in your eyes.
I like it because you can see the state of things beneath it.
The important thing with this is to go over everything with a heat gun after.
The heat makes it temporarily very fluid and as such it can 'wick' into every seam, nook, cranny that otherwise would be unintentionally left dry.
The heat also levels the finish off nicely........

Dinitrol products are very highly thought of...but they are pricey and have a confusing range of products.

The waxoyl works fine as long as you are happy to check it out every year or two...high pressure atomiser for inside the box sections.
There's plenty of info on some land rover forums if you search...but thoroughness of application is the key...things will rot where you miss a bit..... regular use of the vehicle discourages condensation building up in hidden areas........
